Don't quote me on this, but I believe TPS takes place 1-1.5 years after BL1. Dahl pulled out of Pandora when Atlas showed up, and abandoned the Lost Legion, as they did with all the prisoners/slaves who end up as bandits, and Tannis decided to stay because she was convinced that she was close to deciphering the Eridian messages. Zarpedon mentions (through echos) that they found the Vault during or just after Dahl pulled out, and I THINK that's what caused the Crackening. From her physical appearance, Zarpedon reached the Vault and used that super-fortune teller, which convinced her that the Vaults must be destroyed/remain closed to prevent a super-cataclysm. All of this is explained through ECHOs/Tannis throughout the series. Although in BL2, Tannis says the bandits were initially normal people with families and regular lives and whatnot, which is kind of a plot hole.

My real question is, where the hell are the Eridians in BL2? There's a Vault in the Vanilla game, and another in Campaign of Carnage. Did Hyperion and TORGUE wipe them out beforehand?

Zarpedon's 4th? Echo in Vorago Solitude says that she found the Vault 4 years before Hyperion started sniffing around.

Yeah, but IIRC she found the Elpis Vault before the Crackening.

This is complete and total speculation on my part, but maybe the Red Eridian was effectively all that was left. I'm guessing the Eridians on the moon might not have had much in the way of manpower available, given that they recruited/brainwashed/co-opted a Dahl Legion into trying to guard Elpis' Vault. After Jack's Hunters carved a bloody swath through them, maybe they didn't have the forces to try anything during the Hyperion/Raider war.

Not sure why it wouldn't have tried to help the Raiders stop Jack, though.

On the topic of the Red Eridian, the introduction was kind of a shot from left field, since BL1 lore (as far as I know) states that the Eridians sacrificed their entire civilization to lock up the Vault of the Destroyer. Hopefully we get an explanation at some point.

Maybe it and its brigade(?) were in stasis under Elpis until the Pandora Vault opened. Once the Destroyer Vault got unsealed, their alarm clock woke everyone up to make sure no one found the Elpis Vault and/or the Warrior.

Some, perhaps a lot, of the bandits were. Baron Flynt, for example, was a prison warden for Dahl, according to the Official Borderlands Guide.

The various Psychos, Bruisers and Midgets, however, were all convict miners from the Headstone Mine, where the first piece of the Vault Key was found, mutated by something found down there shortly before the Dahl pullout.

Fairly certain it happened after bl1. The borderlands devs mentioned something along the lines of: In borderlands 1, the moon was perfectly fine, and in borderlands 2 it looked all messed up, and we wanted to tell a story..

something like that anyway.

5 years between BL1 & BL2.

Something isn't adding up then. BL2 takes place 5 years after BL1. TPS takes place approximately 1-1.5 years after BL1. In Vorago Solitude, Zarpedon's last Echo recording states that it takes 4 years for Hyperion to start looking for the vault.

That stated timeline definitely has The Crackening happening before the events of BL1, and Hyperion looking for the moon vault after BL1.

In one of the sidequests some guy went crazy after the crackening and he's still around when playing. So it can't have been more than a single lifetime for sure.

I believe I recall an echo log about Dahl leaving after the crackening and people returning a few years after that but I'm not sure about that one.

Pickle was alive, he mentions that he lost people during the Crackening, and he's only 10.

Side note: Claptrap mentions at the beginning of BL2 an event called the "Flash Freeze." Any info on what this was?

This is speculation but I remember reading pandora had colonists on it while it was in a several year winter period; but when the snow melted all of the eat your face monster/aliens started showing up in large force. Maybe parts of pandora are starting to freeze again

That's right! They made it a big deal in the first game (at least from promo material if not in the game) that it was the end of hibernation or something. That makes sense. Wasn't sure if Hyperion did anything or the Eridium caused it.

Supposedly Pandora gets most of it's sunlight from being reflected by Elpis, due to some weird orbit, so when Hyperion placed Helios between them, it cut down the energy Pandora recieved by a lot, and dropped temperatures back down into an artificial winter.

[spoiler] When you do the mission for Janey where you collect stuff from her old camp and kill the Kraggon that killed... "her", she says something about the crackening happening a few months ago.

Anyone have the mission coming up that could verify?
